Ram Gopal Varma can be a jerk, but his latest salvo may not be completely his arrogance on display. He’s big on pulling stunts and not generally giving a damn about people accepting his views. So, he watches “Mani’s latest” and goes all out for Dulqar (which is fine), but rubbishes Mammooty as an actor and this is seen by many as an attempt by RGV to outrageous for the sake of cheap publicity.
If you consider this as the voice of a fan (RGV repeats that claim amply) who has just been overwhelmed by Dulqar’s performance in ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’, such a claim (“Mammooty is a junior artiste compared to his son”) is half excitement (for the son), half disappointment (the father could not deliver with his abundant talent). Such shallow comparisons may have no merit, but it is just an outlandish way to express one’s appreciation.
Let’s not forget that Ram Gopal Varma is a director when it comes to extracting extraordinary work out of mediocre actors. The guy knows a few things about actors, so let’s cut him some slack.
